Sweets. Sweets. Sweets.

Sweets. Sweets. Sweets.

As you drive through the rolling hills of the Transkei, this is a chant you will hear on a regular basis.

As a tourist in a vehicle you have morphed into some sort of “Willy Wonkas’ magical sweet cart cruising through the villages on a rainbow. The kids will stream towards your vehicle with their hands open, screaming “Sweeeeeeeets”. In some instances, this is the only English word they know. If you have give these children sweets, their faces will light up like a sunset. You will feel completely warm inside with a gratifying sense of kindness.
